To Whom it May Concern:
After a move to the Chicago area this year and finding your exciting opportunity, I am exultantly submitting my resume for your consideration of employment. As a college graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and Writing, I am pursuing this position for an opportunity to utilize my writing, communication, and leadership skills in an exciting new field.
As a student at the University of Evansville, I acquired a diverse set of critical skills important to the communications and marketing industries. I mastered the techniques of creative writing, straight news writing and news releases; and creatively developed commercials and campaign for comprehensive advertising campaigns.
While acquiring my education at the University of Evansville, I also worked part-time at a local news station—14WFIE. I worked as a New Media Producer for the Web Department. I edited and posted text and video stories for the website (14wfie.com). I was responsible for ensuring the web page adhered to AP Style and was interactive and engaging on a daily basis. Working in the news industry helped me become more productive with my time due to much of it being spent working on deadlines. I thrived in the fast-paced, high-energy breaking news situations. While I learned that speed was the game in the newsroom, I was also given the opportunity to write feature articles on local sports teams.
I later took my acquired knowledge of web page manipulation and Internet marketing from the newsroom and put it toward starting my own business. I was the Sole Owner of a start-up LLC called Raymar Ventures. During the start-up of my web-based wholesale website I learned the basics and fundamentals of web marketing such as the importance of Google Analytics and key word placement. I ran a blog which linked to my website. It was a valuable learning experience.
After graduating into a difficult job market and realizing starting my own business wasn’t panning out, I took a part-time cart-pusher job at Menards in Evansville, Indiana. I wasn’t satisfied with my position, so I worked hard and took on every opportunity for advancement.
After a move to the Chicago area, I was thriving as a Hardware Department manager at Menards in Long Grove, IL. But, I needed a career field change. So, I took a chance with a small company called eTechnologies in Northbrook, IL as an intern content writer.
After the internship ended, I parlayed my acquired skills into an SEO Content Manager job for an eCommerce website. I am always aiming high and trying to accomplish bigger and better things.
This never-surrendering work ethic and drive to be the best is something you will be afforded every day if you were to but give me an opportunity. I never settle for mediocrity and always see room for improvement in others and myself.
I would graciously welcome an opportunity to speak with you further about my qualifications. If you have any further questions for me, I can be reached at 765-580-0858 or [email protected].
Sincerest regards,
Mike Mardis
